Chemicals policy in this region is mainly focused on engagement in, and implementation of, global chemical agreements, for example the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM), the Stockholm Convention and GHS.
A South American workshop on GHS implementation at the end of 2004 involved countries from Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile [as a candidate country] and the Andean Community (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela).
A report is also available of a regional consultation meeting on SAICM, involving representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean
